    The Origins Of Mothers Day

As it is Mother's Day this Sunday 31 March, I am going to tell you about the Origins of Mother's Day.

The origins of Mother's Day dates back to ancient Greece and Rome. The earliest history of Mothers Day dates back to the ancient annual spring festival the Greeks dedicated to maternal goddesses. The Greeks used the occasion to honour Rhea who was the wife of Cronus and the mother of many deities of Greek mythology. Ancient Romans also celebrated a spring festival, called Hilaria which was dedicated to Cybele, a mother goddess.

Early Christians in England in the 17th century had a Mother's Day celebration in honour of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Christ, by having a festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent which is the 40 day period leading up to Easter. After a prayer service in church to honour Virgin Mary, children brought gifts and flowers to pay tribute to their own mothers. In England this holiday was expanded to include all mothers. It was then called Mothering Sunday and is celebrated every year in many countries but not all on the same date.  This year, Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom is on Sunday 11 March.  Many other countries do not celebrate Mother's Day until May but the United Kingdom always celebrates it in March.

Mother’s Day is now a tradition for children giving their mother a card and a gift to show them how much they love them. A gift could be chocolates or an item of jewellery.

As you all know, I make jewellery and this lovely amethyst heart pendant pearl and crystals necklace will make a lovely Mother's Day gift. If it is not to your taste then you will find lots more items of jewellery in my online shop.

  2. Swarovski Crystal Pink Pearl Tiara

Good morning.  I did not make it yesterday to do my blog but I am here today just a day later than I said I would be.

I now have some lovely wedding tiaras on my website for you to have a look at. The pink tiara above is a Swarovski Crystal Pink Pearl and clear crystals wirewrapped tiara and is definitely for lovers of pink.

This tiara below is a Swarovski Crystal cream pearls and clear crystals wirewrapped tiara.  I made it a while ago and it is the first tiara that I made but it has been rephotographed and now on my website.  This picture does not quite do the tiara justice but I am still working on my photos and photography.  This picture is also a close up of the tiara.

This third tiara is made up of different coloured crystals and is also lovely to look at.  It is a multicoloured crystal wirewrapped tiara with a blue ribbon on the tiara base.
